The Grove – RTC is based on the Serial Real-Time Clock chip DS1307 which supports I2C. It uses a Lithium cell battery (CR1225). The clock/calendar provides seconds minutes hours day date month and year information. The number of days is automatically adjusted for all months including for leap years. The clock operates in either the 24-hour or 12-hour format with AM/PM Indicator. The chip has a built-in power sense circuit that detects power failures and automatically switches from primary supply to the battery supply.
